A cenote at a henequen hacienda
Mucuyché is a restored henequen hacienda south of Mérida. Henequen is the plant fibre that once made Yucatán rich. Guided tours walk you through the old buildings and explain this history before you reach the water.
The two cenotes
The site has two cenotes: Cenote Carlota, a cave with an opening in the roof, and Azul Maya, a semi-open cenote. A stone canal from the colonial era joins the area between them. Carlota is named after Empress Carlota, who is said to have visited in 1865.
Tours and extras
Visits are guided, with swimming time in both cenotes. Life jackets and lockers are included, and the hacienda has a restaurant with handmade tortillas, a pool and an artisan shop. Some tours add a truck ride through the grounds.
